Scenes from Last night's Women's Softball
July 27, 2007 - Did you play softball in high school or college? Do you want a night out? Want to make new friends and have some fun at the same time? Well check out Southborough Recreation's Women's Softball. All you have to do is show up and remember to bring a glove. Bring some friends. This is a great oppurtunity to get some exercise and meet friends at the same time. If you don't know how to play softball, no problem, they will be happy to teach you. They don't play for the competition they play for the fun of the game, so come on out and join them. There are four more weeks of play. Games are held Thursdays at 7:00 PM. The next four games will be held in Northborough at the baseball fields behind the Northboro Police station.

Step out of the Car!!
July 25, 2007 - The Southborough Junior Police Academy is in its 8th year. This year there are twenty cadets participating. They are learning subjects such as felony stops and arrests, public speaking, team-work, internet safety via the DA’s office personnel, lectures and instruction, physical fitness through an obstacle course, target shooting with air soft guns, defensive maneuvers and today heard from a member of the Worcester Police gang unit. Four returning cadets between the ages of 17 and 20 that have gone through the academy previous, augment the six Southborough Police Staff that instruct the cadets. It is a one week course and graduation will be this Friday. I was able to follow many of the cadets through their training today. More photos will be online later. |

Open Space Commission meets
July 25, 2007 - Last night the Southborough Open Space Commission met with Jeff Collins who has been doing a habitat survey within the Town of Southborough. A power point display of the results of his work that is being funded through administrative funds of the Southborough Community Preservation Committee was presented. This study will be able to be seen by residents at a future public meeting. The results will also be used by the Master Plan Open Space and Recreation. It will be beneficial to many committees and boards within Town. Also on the agenda was discussions of parcels of land that are up for sale or soon will be available. Committee member Thad Soule brought the committee up to date on the GIS work that he has been working on for Open Space. The GIS maps are being aligned with Southborough’s Planning Board to ensure that Open Space promised by subdivision developers remain open space. Also on the agenda the Committee was brought up to date on the status of Edgewood Estates and their open space situation. Discussion on possible mitigation for the Chapter 40 B proposals in town were initiated within the committee itself. |

The Three Amigos
July 25, 2007 - These three young riders all hail from Southborough and just competed in the Annual Woodville Trailbusters 4H Club horse show held in Hopkinton, MA. They competed in such events as Fitting and showmanship in which you try to groom your horse to its best and show the horse to its best advantage. Other classes were English riding "flat" or "rail" classes and the jumping classes, some jumps were as high as three feet. The Western classes consisted of the same "flat" or "rail" classes plus the always exciting and fast reining classes. Reining classes are now being considered and tried out at the Olympic level along with the English dressage and eventing classes. Six ribbons are awarded to the top six riders. Lead line and walk-trot classes are offered for the more inexperienced or just starting out riders while on the opposite end there are classes for even adults to show in. Two of the riders also showed off their riding skills in the Clubs Drill team while the third (western horse) carried the 4H flag. |

July 23, 2007 - This is the cardboard compactor. According to DPW Superintendent Karen Galligan, you should still flatten the cardboard boxes before putting them into the compactor. Both the cardboard and the plastics compactor will be operated by DPW staff. You should not attempt to push any of the controls.
