Missed the curve

June 22, 2007 - Southborough Firefighters salute the nine Charlestown South Carolina Firefighters that lost their lives fighting a furniture warehouse fire earlier this week.  This Memorial Service was encouraged by the Fire Chief's Association of Massachusetts, Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Corps of Fire Chaplains and the Department of Fire Services to hold similar services across the state in memory of the nine Firefighters.

June 22, 2007 -  Looking for something to do this week? Southborough has a lot on tap to keep you busy.  Saturday June 23 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Southborough DPW there will the First Annual Car Wash for the United Parishes Food Pantry.  Bring food items and get your car washed!!   Later Saturday is the Annual Southborough Players meeting held at the Southborough Community House on the corner of Rte 85 and 30.  Southborough Players have been in existence since 1969 and have put on a variety of plays.  They are always looking for new performers, no experience necessary. So join the fun and attend the annual meeting June 23 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Continuing on to Sunday there are more events.  Start off with a pancake breakfast at St. Anne's Parish Hall.  This joint St. Matthews and St. Anne's breakfast is to help raise funds for the youth ministry group to attend a trip down South to help in rebuilding homes damaged from Hurricane Katrina.  The breakfast will run from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.  There will be a fee of $5.00 per person, children under 3 free with a family maximum of $25.00.  This all leads up to the most fun of the weekend, Summer Nights featuring food vendors, music, bubble romp, pony rides, tattoos, rock wall, face painting and fireworks.  So spend the weekend in Southborough and enjoy a variety of events.

Damsels on the Sudbury

June 18, 2007 - Damselflies land on leaves adjacent to the Sudbury River.  The difference between damselflies and dragonflies are damselflies have four wings that are very near equal size of each and are more lightweight to dragonflies. Their eyes are separate and never touch.  Damselflies are found on and near the water's edge.  Dragonflies are heavier, their eyes are very large and usually touch each other.  The back wings are usually shorter than the front wings and most often can be found well away from water.
