Southborough Players Annual Meeting

Southborough Players Newsletter

June 2007

Over the past several years your local community theater group has presented some very ambitious productions from the big stage musical spectacles of The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, and Bye Bye Birdie to the madcap comedy of Moon Over Buffalo.  In fact, The Southborough Players have been staging performances consistently since 1969 through the dedication and commitment of a core group of people with a pure passion for theater and the satisfaction of seeing hard work turn into some great performances.

Now we find ourselves at a crossroads.  Despite our efforts to generate greater interest and involvement from the community we realize that this theater group is in serious need of revitalization and new blood.  We are making an appeal to the community to show your support for theater and the arts in Southborough and the Metrowest and help keep that tradition working.

We invite you to attend our annual meeting on Saturday June 23rd at the Southborough Community House from 6-9PM where we will discuss the future of the Players and hold our board elections.  We encourage you to come and ask questions and at the minimum become or renew your membership (it's only $5!) or take a bigger step and run for a board position.  The Player's Board meets once a month and helps set the direction and carry on the business of the Southborough Players.

We will also be announcing our 2007-2008 season which will begin with a great family musical.  Take on the challenge and be a part of the theater, the decision to keep the Southborough Players a living and breathing entity is up to you because in all its definitions this is a theater of the community and for the community.

The Southborough Players will be providing appetizers  so please RSVP by either replying to this newsletter or calling 508 485-4424.

If you would like to contact us, please send an e-mail to southboroughplayers@charter.net , reply to this newsletter or leave a voice-mail at 508 485-4424

Thanks,

Riverfest 2007 is coming

June 10, 2007 - Ralph Iannone and Donna McDaniel paddle back up the Sudbury River during the 2005 RiverFest event.  Last year the event was held but the river was too high and fast to safely navigate so visitors learned how to fish and children learned all about Fairy Houses. This year the Sudbury River Watershed Organization, Southborough Recreation Commission and the  Southborough Open Space Commission will once again host an event in town for the Sixth Annual RiverFest.  This years events include free canoe rides, learn about and how to build Fairy Houses, Nature walk and scavenger hunt on trails in Hopkinton and Southborough along the Sudbury River.  There will be a fishing demonstration and a chance to meet Southborough resident Gordon Morrison author of nature books.  All activities take place within walking distance of Bridge Street and Wood Street, Southborough, June 17, 2007 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  RiverFest is a celebration of the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Rivers that form the SUASCO watershed. The RiverFest event is sponsored by the National Wild and Scenic Rivers system (for which there are several miles of these three rivers designated as such). Events can be found up and down the rivers on both days, June 16 and June 17, 2007. For more information you can check out www.sudburyriver.org and for a map and schedule of events for RiverFest check out http://www.sudbury-assabet-concord.org/theOrganization/riverfest.html
